How to Secure Your Vehicle Purchase in Tauste: Downloadable Deposit Agreement Template (Word/PDF)
Buying a used car from a private seller can be a stressful experience, especially when you want to ensure the vehicle is reserved for you while you arrange financing or a mechanic’s inspection. In Spain, this is managed through a Contrato de Arras (Deposit Agreement). This document serves as a binding promise: the seller agrees to take the car off the market, and you agree to pay a deposit to secure your right to purchase it at a fixed price by a specific date.
Instructions on how and where to use this document in Tauste
This is a private contract between two individuals, so you do not need to submit it to the Tauste City Hall or the DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) at this stage. Instead, follow these steps:
- Print two copies of the document (one for the buyer, one for the seller).
- Fill in the details clearly in blue or black ink.
- Both parties must sign every page of the document.
- If you are meeting in Tauste, ensure you verify the seller's DNI/NIE against the vehicle’s "Permiso de Circulación."
- Keep the deposit amount modest (usually 10% of the total price) and ensure you have proof of transfer if paying by bank.

Additional documentation required
While the deposit agreement is a private document, you will eventually need the following to finalize the transfer at the DGT:
- The original "Permiso de Circulación" of the vehicle.
- The "Ficha Técnica" (Technical Inspection Card) with a valid ITV.
- The "Impuesto de Circulación" (Road Tax) paid for the previous year.
- A copy of the seller’s DNI/NIE.
- The "Contrato de Compraventa" (Final Bill of Sale), which is different from this deposit agreement.
Expert Tip: Never hand over cash without a signed receipt or a bank transfer trail. In Tauste, if you are unsure about the car's legal status, you can request an "Informe de Vehículo" from the DGT website using the license plate number; this will tell you if the car has any liens, seizures, or unpaid fines before you sign the deposit agreement.
