How to Temporarily De-register Your Vehicle in Zas: Free Downloadable Template

If you own a vehicle in Zas (A Coruña) that you are not planning to use for a while—perhaps due to a long trip, a mechanical breakdown, or simply to save on insurance and road tax—you have the option to perform a "Baja Temporal." This official procedure with the DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) suspends your vehicle's registration status. By doing this, you stop the accrual of the IVTM (local road tax) and can cancel your insurance policy without legal repercussions. This guide provides you with the necessary information and a ready-to-use template to help you navigate this bureaucratic process efficiently.

How and Where to Submit Your Application in Zas

Since the DGT has digitized most processes, you have two primary ways to submit your request:

Expert Tip: Remember that a "Baja Temporal" does not exempt you from the obligation to keep the vehicle in a private space (like a private garage in Zas). You cannot leave a de-registered vehicle parked on a public street, as the local police can still sanction you or even remove the vehicle for being abandoned. Furthermore, if you decide to drive the car again, you must reactivate the registration (Alta) before putting it back on the road; otherwise, you will face significant fines.
