How to Notify the Sale of Your Vehicle to the City Council of Esclavitud (Download Template)
When you sell a vehicle in Spain, it is not enough to simply change the ownership at the DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico). To avoid being held liable for the "Impuesto sobre Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica" (IVTM)—commonly known as the road tax—you must formally notify your local City Council. This template is designed specifically for residents of Esclavitud to ensure the municipal tax records are updated immediately, preventing future tax claims against you for a car you no longer own.
Instructions on how and where to submit it in Esclavitud
Once you have filled out the template below, you must submit it to the Municipal Registry (Registro Municipal) of the Esclavitud City Council. You have three primary ways to do this:
- In-person: Visit the Town Hall (Ayuntamiento) office during business hours. Bring your original ID (DNI/NIE) and the signed document.
- Electronic Office (Sede Electrónica): If you have a digital certificate or Cl@ve PIN, you can submit the document through the official online portal of the Esclavitud City Council. This is the fastest method.
- By Post: You may send the document via "Correo Administrativo" at your local post office, ensuring the envelope is left open so the clerk can stamp the date on the document before sealing it.

Additional documentation required
To ensure your request is processed without delays, you must attach the following supporting documents to your signed letter:
- A copy of the "Contrato de Compraventa" (Sales Contract) signed by both parties.
- A copy of the new "Permiso de Circulación" (Vehicle Registration) showing the buyer as the new owner, or the "Informe de Vehículo" from the DGT confirming the change of ownership.
- A copy of your DNI, NIE, or Passport.
- If you are acting through a representative, a signed authorization document (Representación Voluntaria).
Expert Tip: Always keep a stamped copy of your submission (the "sello de entrada"). In the event of a clerical error where the City Council continues to bill you for the road tax, this stamped document is your only legal evidence to request a refund and cancel the debt. Do not assume the DGT communicates automatically with the local City Council; taking this extra step in Esclavitud protects your wallet from future administrative headaches.
