How to Notify the Elda City Council of a Vehicle Sale: Downloadable Template

When you sell a vehicle in Spain, it is not enough to simply sign the contract with the buyer. You must notify the DGT (Traffic Department) and, crucially, the local City Council (Ayuntamiento) to stop being liable for the annual vehicle tax known as the Impuesto sobre Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica (IVTM). This template will help you formally inform the Elda City Council that you are no longer the owner, preventing you from receiving future tax bills for a car you no longer possess.

Instructions on how and where to submit it in Elda

Once you have filled out the template below, you must submit it to the Elda City Council to update their tax records. You have two primary options:

Additional documentation required

To ensure your request is processed without delays, you must attach the following documents to your submission:

Expert Tip: Always keep a stamped copy of your submission (or the digital registration receipt) as proof of filing. The City Council may take a few months to process the update, so having this proof is essential if you receive a reminder for the following year's tax. Remember: the seller is responsible for the tax until the end of the calendar year in which the sale occurs, but notifying the council immediately ensures that the tax bill for the following year is correctly issued to the new owner.
