How to Notify the Cadiz City Council of a Vehicle Sale: Downloadable Template
When you sell a vehicle in Spain, it is not enough to simply notify the DGT (Traffic Department). You must also inform the local City Council (Ayuntamiento) where the vehicle is registered to stop the accrual of the "Impuesto sobre Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica" (IVTM), commonly known as the "road tax." Failure to do this in Cadiz can lead to you being held liable for taxes on a car you no longer own. This template allows you to formally notify the Cadiz City Council of the change in ownership.
Instructions on how and where to submit it in Cadiz
Once you have filled out the template below, you have two primary ways to submit it to the Cadiz City Council:
- In-person: Visit the OAC (Oficina de Atención al Ciudadano) in Cadiz. You will need to bring your ID (DNI/NIE), the signed template, and proof of the transfer. It is highly recommended to book an appointment ("cita previa") through the official Cadiz City Council website beforehand.
- Online: If you possess a digital certificate or Cl@ve PIN, you can submit the document via the "Sede Electrónica" of the Cadiz City Council. This is the fastest and most efficient method.

Firma:
[Nombre y Apellidos del Vendedor]
Additional documentation required
To ensure your request is processed without delays, you must attach the following documents to your submission:
- A copy of your DNI, NIE, or Passport.
- A copy of the "Permiso de Circulación" showing the new owner's details, or the official "Informe de Vehículo" issued by the DGT confirming the change of ownership.
- The "Contrato de Compraventa" (Sale Contract) signed by both parties.
Expert Tip: Always keep a stamped copy of your submission (the "sello de entrada"). In Spanish bureaucracy, this is your only legal proof that you fulfilled your obligation. If you receive a tax bill for the vehicle in the future, this stamped document will be your primary evidence to request a cancellation of the debt. If you are selling the car to a dealership, they often handle this paperwork for you, but it is your responsibility to verify that the change has actually been reflected in the municipal records.
