How to Notify the Bejis Town Hall of a Vehicle Sale: Downloadable Template
When you sell a vehicle in Spain, it is not enough to simply sign a purchase contract. You must notify the local Town Hall (Ayuntamiento) to stop the accrual of the "Impuesto sobre Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica" (IVTM), commonly known as the "road tax." If you fail to notify the Bejis Town Hall, you may remain liable for the tax even after the car has changed hands. This template allows you to formally notify the local authorities in Bejis that you are no longer the owner of the vehicle.
Instructions on how and where to submit it in Bejis
To submit this notification in Bejis, you have two primary options:
- In-person: Visit the Town Hall (Ayuntamiento de Bejís) offices during business hours. Bring the original document and a copy so the clerk can stamp your copy as a "received" proof.
- Online: If you have a digital certificate (Certificado Digital) or Cl@ve, you can submit the document via the "Sede Electrónica" of the Bejis Town Hall.
The document must be addressed to the Department of Taxation (Departamento de Recaudación) of the Bejís Town Hall.

Additional documentation required
To ensure your request is processed without delays, you must attach the following documents to your notification:
- A copy of your DNI, NIE, or Passport.
- A copy of the "Permiso de Circulación" showing the new owner's details, or the official "Informe de Vehículo" issued by the DGT confirming the change of ownership.
- A copy of the signed "Contrato de Compraventa" (Private Sales Contract).
Expert Tip: Always keep the stamped copy of your notification provided by the Town Hall. If you receive a tax bill for the following year, this document is your only legal defense to prove that you notified the authorities in time. Furthermore, ensure the buyer has actually completed the transfer at the DGT; if they haven't, you remain the legal owner regardless of the private contract.
